Gene Hamilton – Former Counselor To The Attorney General, Former Senior Counselor To The DHS Secretary

Gene Hamilton joined the Trump administration when President Trump took office in January 2017, taking the role of senior counselor to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. At DHS, he was considered one of the top immigration policy officials for the Trump administration. After 9 months, Hamilton moved to the Department of Justice to be a senior counselor to Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Hamilton was an aggressive advocate for expanding family separation prosecutions after a test run program in Texas in 2017.

Hamilton Defended His Role In Pursuing Prosecutions Resulting In Family Separation. “Gene Hamilton, a top lawyer and ally of Stephen Miller, the architect of the president’s assault on immigration, argued in a 32-page response that Justice Department officials merely took direction from the president.
